Working as a blogger, it is important to entertain and educate your readers at the same time. It is also important that you maintain a niche but throw in additional content from time-to-time. This keeps the readers interested. It also helps to bring new readers your way to increase your audience. Building a larger audience helps to move you up the ladder in the blogging world to make a name for yourself amongst millions of everyday bloggers. The goal is to offer what others don’t in a way that resonates with your readers.

Get Controversial

It is a good idea to stir the pot every now and then with a controversial topic. As the blog owner, you have to be open to a variety of comments and feedback regarding the content and not start or egg on arguments with readers. Listen to their comments and understand their views, whether you believe them to be correct or not.

Controversial topics are shared more often than not, which helps to bring your content to thousands of other potential followers. Choose these topics wisely and be sure that you are prepared for the comments that will come from it.

Speak from the Heart

Sometimes, bringing in topics that are heartwarming and touching helps to connect with readers. Showing that you have a compassionate side, rather than just being a frugal shopper, crafty person or kid-friendly helps connect audiences to blog owners better. You have to be able to connect with your audience on a multitude of levels. This does not mean that you cannot have a specific theme or tone for your blog; it just means that you are versatile.

Use Real Life Happenings

Speak about your real life. It doesn’t have to be a weekly entry or even a regular occurrence. Readers like to know who the blog owners are and what they deal with on a daily basis. Providing content is one thing, but if a reader cannot connect with you, it is nearly pointless to have written that piece. Each piece has to have value, and real life situations have value.

Talk About World Happenings

Events that happen around the world are great topics to bring into a monthly feature post or something to switch up the content on the blog. Pick and choose these topics wisely so that it does still fit into the theme of your blog. The post should speak from your point of view and should give valid reasons as to why you feel or think a specific way about the event.

Discuss Local Issues

Local bloggers easily connect with residents in and around their area. Local events, including crime and/or tragedy, help to bring communities together. It is a good time to put together a group of people to help those suffering from a tragedy through donations, prayers or just community support. Breaking down the blog into sections, including a local section, is ideal to bring in a wider variety of readers and followers.

Introduce a New Thought

Create a buzz among your readers by introducing a new concept. The concept can be anything, even if it is an idea for an app that hasn’t been created yet or creative ways to help families get organized. These concepts are likely to help others. That will also help to step up your blogging game.

Team Up with Other Bloggers

Create a group of bloggers that write or focus on similar topics. What you can do with this is create a network to share posts and offer readers on all of the connected blogs the opportunity to become part of a larger community. A variety of blog types will bring them more information by using far less searches for information. Networking and connecting with others also gives you an idea of what you can incorporate into your own space without being a copycat.

Offer Guest Blogging Opportunities

Another way to step up your blog writing game is to be a guest blogger for others and to offer the same in return. Guest bloggers bring a fresh light to topics that are trending. It helps that blogger to get noticed and also helps the blogger to branch out as far as writing is concerned. Leaving your comfort zone is a good thing.

Feature a Top Blogger in your Niche

Each month, feature a special top blogger from your niche. This helps you to network and build your readership. It will also give you an opportunity to read another blogger’s content to see why they are so popular and how their style reaches readers in a better way than yours might.

Create Theme or Topic Contests for Readers

Readers like to be active members on blogs. Interacting with blog owners makes the reader feel more important, more connected and more appreciated. Offer topic or post theme contests every once in a while, or even offer a contest for a sponsored item that you received for free. It keeps the blog fun, engaging and as more of a community setting.

There are a lot of things that you can do as a blog owner to step up your game. Writing in a way that reaches and resonates positively with readers is a hard task to accomplish. It is something that takes time. Examine some of the top bloggers in your niche to see what they are doing to continually gain an audience, keep them interested and who they network with. Sometimes just sitting back and watching others is helpful so that you can incorporate some of their tactics into your own blog in your own way. It is important, however, to always be yourself and never put on a façade for your readers.
